SICK DAY MEME
( REQUESTED RE-POST)

There's not denying it, you're feeling crap. School, work, a date, tea with nana, mowing the lawns, doing your laundry, that important meeting... you can't make it. You want to stay in bed and maybe you just need a little TLC in the process. What is YOUR reason for that ever-fateful call in sick that every boss just loves to hate? RULES: - Leave a comment with your character's name, fandom, and any preferences you have.  - When replying, RNG for a number between 1 and 16.  - The number corresponds to the scenario that you will play out in any way you feel the urge.  - The poster is the sick person, the tagger is the one taking care of them/keeping them company. - Go from there!

THE LIST:
1// COLD
It's just a boring old sinus infection and you probably could go in, but you're not because bed is just too nice.

2// FLU
You feel like you're dying and everything aches, but it's not quite serious enough to arrange your own funeral yet.

3// MAN FLU
Doesn't anyone understand how sick and miserable you are?! You can't function! The world is ending! You need cuddles, and hugs, and you can't do ANYTHING by yourself!

4// STOMACH BUG
Uh oh, this is going to get messy...

5// FOOD POISONING
But that meal was sooooooo good. The best you ever had! Why is it betraying you so badly?! Never eating ever again. 

6// CONCUSSION
You've been hit in the head and now it feels like it's going to explode. Being horizontal is the best option, and not even in a good way.

7// MONO
Everything hurts, you feel sick, you don't want to move, you don't want to eat, but you're in it for the long haul. Company and maybe some cuddles with chicken soup might be nice.

8// CHICKEN POX OR MEASLES
SPOTS! Spots everywhere! Yes, even there! You look hideous and it itches so damn much. Don't scratch, don't scratch... oh screw it!

9// LARYNGITIS
Your throat hurts so bad and now you can't talk. How are you going to communicate, maybe you need a little bell? Is it bad form to text message someone sitting right in front of you? Who cares, you want chicken soup.

It's still sick, right?

You don't know what you have done, but you woke up barely able to move. You probably shouldn't have done what you did last night... and you should probably rest it.

12// INCAPACITATING INJURY
You got hurt, you can move much, and you're stuck in bed. Is it a broken bone? Torn groin muscle? Cracked ribs? Whatever it is, the world clearly hates you.

13// POST ROUTINE SURGERY
It was a simple procedure and now you're back home. The only catch is, you can't be alone for 48 hours in case of complications, with the added bonus of it hurts like a bitch.

14// POST MAJOR SURGERY
You're stuck in hospital for a few days and have a gaping surgial wound. There aren't even any hot nurses. Now what?

15// LONG TERM ILLNESS
You've just been diagnosed with a longer-term illness (of your choice). You're feeling poorly and don't want to be alone.

I am hardly lecturing you. [ Her tone was mildly indignant as she stirred the strange meaty makeshift soup she'd managed to put together. No, she was not lecturing him. Was she?

Elune. Perhaps she was. Only a tiny bit. Nothing like what he truly deserved. He should be appreciative of that. ]

You should be attempting to rest.

[unpreparer]

Right. Of course you're not.

[He let out a huff himself at her order. He was not on his feet and therefor resting, despite his incessant squirming.]

I am resting.

It is a discussion not a lecture. [ So there. That was it, she won simply because she was Tyrande leader of the Night Elves. He couldn't argue with that.

He would argue she knew he would. ]

I meant in a sleep capacity.

[unpreparer]

Since when did discussion entail barking orders at me, as though I didn't know how to take care of myself?

[I mean, his life choices couldn't have anything to do with it, of course. Noooo. But yes, she wa right. He was going to argue. He wanted to hear her say she was worried about him. She wasn't going to, but he was going to try. and therefore no one can criticize him.]

I am not tired "in a sleep capacity."

When the orders are given to someone who clearly does not know how to take care of themselves.

[ He hardly was the pinnacle example of someone who knew how to take care of himself. A frustrated sigh escaped her lips that she immediately tried to stifle behind a weak faked yawn. ]

That does not mean you should not make attempts to get some sleep.

[unpreparer]

Unlike my brother, I haven't been given much else of a choice. I care for myself just fine.

[if the conversation earlier wasn't any indication, he was still bitter about that. But it didn't come out quite as bitter and menacing as he would have liked. Stuffy noses could do wonders making a person sound pathetic. ]

As talented as I may be I cannot eat and sleep at the same time.

[anudora]

Unlike your brother?What does that mean? Malfurion has had to care for himself many times with no choice in the matter. [ In between naps of course. Perhaps she had her own things she was still very bitter about.

Didn't they all? One did not live as long as they did without accumulating some. ]

It will need to cook a short while longer. There is still time for you to attempt some sleep. Or you may wait until after.

[unpreparer]

It means just as it sounds. Sure my brother has his primitive talents, but you know as well as I that if left alone he would flounder about aimlessly, because he does not have it in him to make difficult decisions. He is a buffoon with no conviction, and relies upon others to do such things for him. I'm sure your coddling has only worsened it over the years.

[There's was a somewhat protective underlying tone that he knew what his brother needed more than she did. In his eyes he couldn't see his brother as anything but the doofus he had been growing up, that he had to try and toughen up. For all his bitterness he could not quite shake that habit. Of course after talking about it, it only served to agitate Illidan and make him feel the need to act more petulant.]

I am not in the mood to sleep.

[anudora]

Malfurion is more capable than you give him credit for. He has to make many hard decisions over the years. [ Not nearly as hard as hers, after all she'd been the one truly left alone, but she was not going to bring that up. Not to him or anyone. At least not yet. Perhaps it would slip out when she least wanted it to.]

Fine. Then do not sleep if you do not wish to.

[unpreparer]

Like how long he's going to spend napping next? In all my years of knowing him, I have not once seen him make the harder but more difficult decision- I suspect that has fallen on your shoulders, like it once did mine.

[He had done it many times, and he knew he had made the right choices, because his people have benefited one way or another each time.]

That was more or less my plan.

[anudora]

You do not know what has fallen on my shoulders. Do not make assumptions. [ The words are snapped and come out harder than she would have intended had she had control. ] He gives up a lot for his sleep. [ So there. He understood nothing. ]

[unpreparer]

So you have it easy then? Is that what you are saying? Because you have changed quite a bit since I was thrown into that wretched.

[He tried to let out an indignant huff, but didn't work out like he hoped. Have an indignant sniffle instead. But then his tone became more quiet as he continued.]

He gives up something far too precious for his Emerald Dream. I would not have made the folly he does.

[anudora]

I--[ She fell silent for a second. ] None of us have had it easy, have we? [ All of their people had suffered greatly. She was not unique in that or unique among them. ]

He has no choice in the choices he must make.

[unpreparer]

[He let out a grunt, that hinted at a tone of agreement. He didn't want to outright say he agreed. He no longer held any love for his people, after giving o much of himself for their benefit, only to be imprisoned by them- they could suffer to eternity and he would not be bothered. However, because Tyrande cared for them, he felt some begrudging obligation to at least try and keep threats at bay, be it from a distance.

Of course when it came to his brother, he had even less sympathy than he did with his former-fellow Kaldorei. With the way people flocked to him, and Tyrande steadfast by his side, he was fine. And any problems he had were because he was an idiot.]

There is always a choice. If he wasn't so soft he wouldn't have gotten himself into such positions in the first place.

[anudora]

That is hardly how it works, Illidan. You know that. The Emerald Dream must be cared for by the druids. [ Bitterness entered into her voice and she winced as she realized how audible it was. She let out a sigh and then checked the makeshift soup for how done it was. It seemed finished so she spooned some out and came to him. ]

Here. It is hardly much of anything but I suppose that is better than nothing at all.

[unpreparer]

Last I checked there was more than one to do so.

[He sat up when Tyrande entered the room, and held out his hands to take the bowl. He took a small sip- trying really really hard to be as polite about it as he could. He knew drinking from the bowl wasn't exactly proper, but he'd have starved to death a long time ago if he had to rely on chasing his food around with little silverware.

His whole attitude very quickly melted away, after. This was the first time she had ever made anything for him, and his face deepened in color at the thought. Hence his attempt to take it as politely as he could.]

It is... far better than anything I can remember having. Thank you, Tyrande.

And yet he always insists on being...[ the one to leave her. To abandon her to take care of their people and make the difficult decisions. And then he returned to speak of how she'd changed. She closed her eyes and let the subject drop least her bitterness take over too much.

She watched him and despite herself a small smile touched the corners of her lips. There was still something of the man he had once been to be found in Illidan. ]

You do not really mean that. It cannot taste like much especially when combined with your illness.

[unpreparer]

[Oh there's plenty left of the man he had once been- there was just far more of the child. Still, he attempted to make an awkward little joke- and one at his own expense no less. He even tried to smile, though it was small and awkward.]

Then you have greatly overestimated my ability to make food.

[Though it was true, he couldn't really taste it, but Tyrande made it so therefore it was good. He did take a moment between sips from the soup to look at her. He hadn't missed her trailing off as she had, and he almost offers to keep her company so she wouldn't have to be alone- but there was that whole banishment thing. So he thinks on it for a moment, he knew he could never have her, but maybe he could at least try and make her happy. Even if he had broken his heart, she still somehow managed to make him happy and he loathed hearing her so bothered by something.]

Is there anything I could do...?

Perhaps I have. That was the problem with many of us, we overestimated so much. [ By us she meant herself, him, and Malfurion. They had all overestimated so many things. From tiny things like how a plan would end up working out to larger things like how people would react to such conflicting feelings all around. They had overestimated their ability to choose, fight, and do, and then so much had been lost.

She swallowed and then shook her head slowly. ]

Do for what, Illidan?

[unpreparer]

[He is almost about to get into another argument about who underestimated what. He had not underestimated anything. He had begun preparing for the inevitable. It was everyone else that lived in their little happy world of denial, and he was thrown into a little box for ten thousand years because of it. Well, that and trying to create a second Well of Eternity, but to this day he did not see anything wrong with that plan.

But, that argument would just be the two of them bickering in an endless circle again. Instead he chose to drop it in favor of the other topic, which he immediately regretted starting because now she wanted him to elaborate on it. He put forth all his effort to sound as dignified as possible, though he didn't look up to her.]

I am just offering should you require any aide, or someone to talk some sense into my buffoon of a brother, or wish for some company- [He paused. Dammit. That sounded like he was hitting on her. That totally sounded like he was hitting on her. He hastily adds on, while trying to keep the embarrassed flush of his cheeks from her view.] just to speak to an old friend, if I am at least still considered that much to you...

[anudora]

[ Another tiny sigh came out, this time of mild relief that he had simply let the subject drop. However the other subject he chose to focus on was hardly better and she swallowed. ]

I believe you are the last person that could talk sense into your brother. [ She stopped herself just before she said 'let alone anyone.' There was no need to further argue, even if that did seem to be where many of their conversations seemed to go. ] An old friend? After all that has happened...[ Did he really think of her that way? What did she think of him as? An old friend or a lost friend. ]

[unpreparer]

[Well that certainly sounded like a resounding 'no' to him. He kept his gaze down at the soup, shoulders sagging slightly, suddenly less hungry than he had been before. He reached over to feel for the table and set the bowl on it. He truly wished if she had no fondness for him, that she would have simply left him alone, rather than drag such things out and give him a sense of false hope. He did at least manage to keep his tone level and flat.]

I think I am tired.

[Welp. There goes his one whole feeling again Tyrande. Stop hurting it already, it's already pathetic. One of these days it's just going to quit on him.]

[anudora]

I...yes, I can imagine you should--would be. You still do not look exceptionally well. [ She was hesitant and it was evidently in the slower way her words came out. As if she were trying to find the right things to say and the right ways to say them. Were there any right ways? After all that had transpired between them.

She let out a sigh and turned her back to him. ]

Would you like me to leave?

[unpreparer]

No.

[And then he sat there wondering why he was just doing this to himself now. No small part of him wished to be alone, but he had already known that would not would be his answer if asked the question by Tyrande. She could break his heart a thousand times, he'd still ask for her to stay. This time he wasn't quite able to hold back the dour edge to his voice.]

But I suppose you would. Don't let me be the one to hold you back, Tyrande.

[anudora]

[ She slumped her shoulders for a second and then let herself sigh before straighten back up. Why did she still feel tinged with guilt and sorrow when it game to everything associated with him? Guilt, sorrow, and some amount of anger. ]

What would you be holding me back from, Illidan?
